Coliform Optical Sensor Unit System

COLOSUS will enable the commercialization of an advanced fluorescence-based optical sensor, specifically targeting the detection of Tryptophan-like fluorescence (TLF) peak for the rapid identification and monitoring of Escherichia coli (E. coli) in treated drinking water and reclaimed water.

Following successful laboratory scale validation, demonstrating superior sensitivity and selectivity compared to commercial solutions, COLOSUS will now focus on maturing the prototype into a robust, field-deployable device optimized for real-world use. This will be achieved through iterative validation cycles with early adopters, including companies operating in water treatment and reuse sector. In parallel, a targeted go-to-market strategy will be implemented to ensure that COLOSUS meets both technical and commercial requirements towards a successful market uptake. This includes stakeholder engagement to define product-market fit, potential market niches use cases validation, and tailor value propositions to identified user needs.

Commercialization will be led by a dedicated spin-off focused on microbiological water sensors, supported by a structured business model, regulatory and IP strategy, investment roadmap, and legal framework, also relying on the broad experience and leadership positioning of AIMEN as a reference research centre in sensing solutions for environmental applications.
