Laser-enhanced Additive Manufacturing 3D Printer for High-Performance Structural Materials
The L3DO project aims to mature and industrially validate a new laser-assisted material extrusion (MEX) 3D printing technology, developed by AIMEN, targeting the creation of a spin-off by the end of 2027 for its commercial exploitation. The new printer enables the manufacturing of components by depositing successive layers of high-performance polymers and carbon-fiber-reinforced composites. To improve interlayer adhesion, it incorporates laser technology to heat the substrate during the printing process, overcoming one of the main limitations of additive manufacturing of composites. Thanks to this innovation, it is possible to produce parts with enhanced mechanical strength and reliability, suitable for demanding applications in sectors such as aerospace and automotive.
