Vehicle Interior Virtual Environment
VIVE aims to transform the vehicle cabin into an immersive, human-centric digital environment by developing a new generation of Extended Reality Head-Up Displays (XR-HUDs). The project seeks to enhance safety, comfort and user experience through intuitive and natural interaction between drivers and digital information, without the need for wearable devices. The initiative combines advanced photonics, holography, optics and XR technologies to create seamless visual interfaces integrated into vehicle dashboards and windscreens.
The project will deliver two key technological innovations: a compact holographic projection system capable of generating low-latency multi-plane 3D images, and transparent photonic films based on diffractive and metasurface structures that precisely direct visual information to the driver. These technologies will enable wider fields of view, improved brightness and colour reproduction, and greater robustness under automotive operating conditions. An intelligent control unit will dynamically adapt XR content based on environmental conditions and driver status. The expected outcome is a safer, more immersive and user-friendly driving experience.
AIMEN coordinates this initiative, ensuring effective implementation, partner coordination, compliance, and achievement of the project’s objectives and impacts. Beyond its coordination role, AIMEN plays a central technical role, leading key activities such as micro-optics fabrication and coordinating the integration, optimization and validation of the lab-scale system.
