The Photonics Technologies are considered as Key Enabling Technologies (KETs). The Laser Technology applied to materials processing give key advantages in terms of productivity, flexibility and efficiency. The traditional applications of marked laser, cutting and welding laser join with the new developments of additive manufacturing, formed and mechanized process, among others.
Our lines of research focus on:
- Additive Manufacturing
Laser or in combination with other technologies, for direct production of features, parts or products, by means of cladding, wire melting and DMD. Includes material issues, quality (geometrical and functional), equipment (optical heads ), programming (3D geometry, reconstruction).
- Laser Assisted Processing
Laser augmented or modified forming, machining, joining, curing and other manufacturing processes. Combination of laser with other physical or chemical energy sources. Process modeling and design.
- High power/high throughput laser processing
Improvements on productivity, depth, material range, etc… in laser welding and cutting using special optical arrangements, ultra-high optical power densities, high speed scanners, beam combinations or tailored spatial beam distributions.
