The automotive and aeronautics industries are two of the most relevant within the manufacturing sector in Spain.
Their competitiveness increasingly depends on their ability to produce high-added valued products in an efficient and sustainable manner, based on contained production costs, guaranteeing their quality and minimising time to market. All this makes necessary to introduce new intelligent manufacturing technologies to ensure both production efficiency (through flexible and reconfigurable production systems) and the quality of the manufactured product, guaranteeing an increasingly efficient manufacturing model of short batches, derived from the massive customisation of products, whose life cycles are becoming shorter and shorter.
COMIC promotes the research of new concepts of integrated and efficient manufacturing of multi-material components, based on the definition of a digital architecture that allows flexible and intelligent manufacturing (through an integrated management of the data flow in the design, engineering and manufacturing phases) combined with the development of advanced manufacturing technologies.
AIMEN will mainly participate in the optimization and research of multi-material joints and in their scale-up for the manufacture of new automotive components and aerostructures through one-shot joining processes, additive manufacturing, laser texturing, thermoforming, laser cutting and welding of thermosetting and thermoplastic composite material components.
