Digital maintenance for sustainable and flexible operation of hydropower plant

  • Start: 01/10/2023
  • End: 30/09/2026

Di-Hydro’s primary objective is to digitize the maintenance and operation of HP plants and clusters by innovative sensor technologies, interoperability, data transparency and safety, so as to create a highly efficient decisionmaking tool based on HP Digital Twins (DTs), that incorporate novel Artificial Intelligent (AI) -based weather and/ water flow proactive modelling and take into consideration environmental, biodiversity and socioeconomic parameters, thus increasing EU’s energy sector competitiveness, sustainability, cleanness and autonomy.

Di-Hydro will highly contribute to strengthening the European renewable energy sector, as well as enabling the sustainable power production with a significantly smaller environmental impact, reduced production cost, and reliable availability regardless of power demand, extreme weather conditions, and occasional incidents, of which the HP O&M is strongly affected up to now.

AIMEN will contribute on the design and development of novel sensing technologies in order to monitor water biodiversity and some of the most relevant anthropogenic water pollutants like E. coli. These sensors will be based on Tryptophan-like fluorescence and Digital Holographic Microscopy and the data gathered by them will contribute to the modelization of the HP's environmental and biodivesity parameters.
