Multi-material additive manufacturing of multifunctional molds for out-of-autoclave infusion processes

  • Start: 01/11/2023
  • End: 01/06/2025

FAUNO project proposes the development of a new generation of multifunctional molds manufactured using Multi-material and Multi-functional Additive Manufacturing (FAMM) technology based on automated and robotized multi-stage processes.

The main objective of the project is to improve the competitivity and sustainability of OoA (Out-of-Autoclave) processes for the manufacture of aeronautical components based on composite material as an alternative to autoclave manufacturing.

FAUNO intends to implement new multi-stage additive manufacturing systems for different thermoplastic materials and agile tools for numerical simulation, multiphysics simulation and data analytics based on artificial intelligence to provide digital support for advanced mold design. In this way, the implementation of new out-of-autoclave (OoA) processes based on liquid resin infusion (LRI) for the manufacture of composite structural components will be accelerated in the aeronautical sector.

AIMEN collaborates in the development of new multifunctional thermoplastic materials, as well as in the optimization of multi-stage additive manufacturing processes assisted by laser heating, integration of FOS sensors and LRI infusion processes.
