FLASH will focus on highly customized laser-based production including new and advanced methods to provide a highly precise distribution of photons at the right place and at the right time.
The FLASH platform will combine three laser sources (1070 nm quasi continuous wave: CW–0.1 ms, 532 nm: 0.1–1 μs and 532 nm: 1–20 ns) in a game-changing configuration that will enable multi-wavelength emission at the same time, over a broad pulse length regime (continuous wave, CW to nanosecond, µs pulses), with dynamic beam shaping (in X, Y and Z directions) in a hybrid robotic/CNC platform with 3 different beam delivery heads (nozzle based, waterjet guided and galvo scanner based).
An advanced digital infrastructure based on a cloud data management system will support process design, in-line monitoring, and system control.
The result will be a futureproof multiprocess laser system capable of at least 10 macro and micro production processes over all major material types, designed to enable flexible and customizable manufacturing of complex products.
AIMEN will lead the work related to the in-line monitorization, by implementing various microphone arrays for each processing head, and an optical sensor measuring the returning light with a photodiode array (both fundamental, UV-vis for plasma monitoring, and IR for thermal study) and a spectrometer for full spectral analysis. A data-fusion approach will enable a fully flexible monitoring solution.
