Hybrid electric regional wing integration novel green technologies

The main aim for HERWINGT is to design an innovative wing suitable for the future hybrid-electric regional aircraft (HER) that will contribute to the overall target to reduce fuel burn, CO2 and other GHG emissions by improving aerodynamic efficiency and reducing weight and will integrate hybrid-electric propulsion systems and other typical wing mounted systems.

AIMEN will be responsible for the manufacturing the inner tank by Additive Manufacturing and welding methods. Additionally, AIMEN will develop a laser-assisted heating system for the AM process. Moreover, IR heating systems will be used within the AM cell to reduce the temperature gradients along the built-up part, reducing thermal stresses and, thus, avoiding distortion to ensure the required mechanical performance of the inner tank

The main innovation result of AIMEN in HERWINGT project will be a laser-assisted AFP (automated fiber placement) for insitu consolidation with closed-loop control that will offer a high quality AFP processes, continuous and automated process for large area welding for aero manufacturers (TIER1-2, OEMs). Also, AIMEN will benefit from including the knowledge generated to provide R&D-based services to industry. In addition, knowledge gained will be used in R&I activities and training.
