Open data and industry driven environment for multiphase and multiscale materials characterization and modelling combining

  • Start: 01/12/2022
  • End: 31/05/2026

The MatCHMaker project is determined to support excellence in research on methods and tools for advanced materials development. This project will enable the integration and interoperability of complex Characterisation and Modeling (C&M) workflows matching the needs of EU manufacturing industry. Requirements on multiphase and multiscale materials coming from Construction, Energy and Mobility sectors will be translated into specific innovation challenges that can be addressed by an integrated approach combining C&M for establishing the process-microstructure-macroscopic properties correlation in advanced materials in a reproducible and efficient way reducing development costs, time and risks while improving sustainability. Knowledge transfer, data sharing and full interoperability between C&M “communities” will be facilitated using data related standards (CHADA, MODA, EMMO) and by the creation of an open repository with connection to design and manufacturing processes.

The expected results are the development of a model-based innovation process to accelerate advanced materials’ design and validation, novel characterisation, modelling and combination of theory with large-scale computation. Reinforce traceability, integrity and interoperability of C&M data and workflows through a semantic approach using EMMO connected with CHADA and MODA methods. Making C&M knowledge and data readily accessible by developing an OPEN data REPOSITORY, ontology-based, integrating intercorrelated concepts and data coming from the proposed C&M Workflows.

The AIMEN's role is to work on developing machine learning for the automatic extraction of features of interest from SEM and TEM images for the construction industry, developing artificial intelligence (AI)-based mechanisms and functionalities, and generating synthetic data through AI generative models.
