The main objective of MULTIFLEX project is the development of new multi-material structures build upon metal and thermoplastic composite through automated flexible production processes and additive manufacturing. As a result, lighter components will be developed with high mechanical requirements and through more sustainable strategies.
The MULTIFLEX project fosters new architectures of multi-material structures which maximize weight reduction, and which also comply with mechanical/functional requirements from an ecodesign perspective. MULTIFLEX also aims the optimization of netshape high production rate schemes, by combining automatic taping technologies (AFP) and fused filament manufacturing (FFF). In addition, MULTIFLEX will study the disassembly process of the thermoplastic reinforcement elements by different techniques and recycling of the composite material to obtain new reinforcement elements, also carrying out the analysis of the life cycle of the new multi-material systems.
During the project, the design of multi-material parts will be carried out to allow traditional metal parts to be adapted to new, lighter and improved designs in terms of mechanical performance. AIMEN will optimize materials and multi-material joining and will develop automated manufacturing strategies that allow greater manufacturing flexibility, easily adapting to possible changes in part design. In addition, sustainable solutions , where AIMEN will study the implementation of disassembly processes for multi-material parts for recycling.
