SENECA project aims to enhance knowledge on the design, manufacturing, and operation of advanced wind structures through the generation of data across their life cycle. To achieve this, SENECA proposes the development of intelligent structures based on composite material for application in wind turbines, which will enable:
i) optimization of manufacturing processes
ii) continuous structural health monitoring during service
iii) consequent optimization of the life cycle.
Within the project, AIMEN will focus its research on the development of novel single-wire sensors that will allow for earlier and more reliable monitoring of the structure by enabling data collection across its thickness and surface in critical regions.
The project's approach centers on the development of an automated methodology for integrating these sensors into the dry fiber preforms of wind structures during resin infusion processes, which minimizes the added time for sensor integration without requiring additional post-processing, while also allowing for the monitoring of the infusion process itself and the identification of residual stresses after curing. Therefore, SENECA's approach will exploit the use of these sensors both during the manufacturing phase of smart structures via resin infusion processes and throughout their service life.
